A few days ago someone asked me what I’d been listening to most recently. I started to list off the albums and had a shocking realization. Everything was electronic. I generally view myself as someone who “keeps it real” when it comes to music, i.e. I prefer groups who play instruments. Also, I’m not a Eurotrash rave kid. It got me thinking and made me realize how much the genre has changed with the introduction of groups such as Justice, LCD Soundsystem, Cut Copy and many others.
After viewing Justice’s new documentary, “A Cross the Universe” (it’s insanely entertaining, check it out), someone turned me onto Soulwax’s “Part of the Weekend Never Dies”. I didn’t know what to expect. I was totally blown away. While Justice’s doc focuses more on the stereotypical rock n’ roll cliches that the band engages in during their North American tour (interestingly enough, you’d think they’d be able to pull hotter groupies…), “Part of the Weekend…” actually explores the dj/rock band/collective’s music. The trailer is mesmerizing, I’ve probably watched it at least 27 times…
The intro is also grrrreat. It’s by So Me, so obvi I’m obsessed. He can do no wrong. Seriously, he could draw a picture of a roach on a piece of toilet paper and I’d think it was the frick’n Mona Lisa. He’s that good.
