In honor of the 2nd season of “30 Rock” coming out on DVD today, I grant you this gem:

Worst tourism campaign EVER. October 9, 2008

I think the message here is, if you’re an ambitious career woman your husband will hate you, you will be clinically depressed, life in shambles and a creepy Aborigine child with orange Wal-Mart feet will break into your posh NYC penthouse, forcing (or not, because it seems like all driven women are apathetic and depressed) you against you will to come back to Australia where life is simple and full of love/sex.  I’m not buying it.  Sadly, this came from Baz Lurhmann.   I did like “Moulin Rouge”.  WTF????

Every once in awhile I come across something that reaffirms my love of advertising….

Graffiti <3 Advertising. October 9, 2008

So, I’m sure the 3 (that’s being hopeful) of you are relieved that I’m back.  I’ve been immersed in grad school aka going to an absurd amount of shows, acting like I’m not an adult, eating my face off, driving around Austin with the windows down and AC blasting wilst singing like Karen O, being thoroughly irresponsible in every imaginable way….Actually, I have to start working on a thesis for one of my classes, Creative Strategies.  In summary, I’m proposing that modern graffiti/street art are a product of advertising, both worlds are mutually beneficial, feed off of each other, etc etc….For those who don’t know a lot about the world of street art, this is the WORST cardinal sin you could ever associate.  The modern graffiti world’s existence is rooted in its abhorrence of advertising.  Banksy, of course, is an obvious example:

The first reference that turned me onto this peculiar relationship was the video by SO ME (Ed Banger’s resident AD/badass and former street artist), “DVNO”.  You’ve all seen it, but it’s worth another viewing.  Advertising permeates EVERYTHING!!!  And that’s not a bad thing at all.
